I have a 30 gallon tank and two kissing gourami. I know they get to be like 12 inches long. I'm getting a bigger tank for them but is it likely that they will get hollow belly if they aren't put in a bigger tank soon? Do I sound insane because I feel like I sound insane. Thats probably not a good thing right??

Its a tall 30 gallon tank I bought for angelfish because they like height, right? Well I can't start my tank with angelfish because they are really ticky about water conditions, so I got my two gourami. They were about 3". They are little things. Anyhoo, I want to get like at 55 gallon tank for them so they can grow because I want them to get big. I love big fish. I'm just worried that I'll stunt their growth and cause them health problems if I don't get them out of this 30 gallon tank ASAP.
Dont know if this will help. but my aunt has one kissing gourami and right now its in a 20g long tank and it is doing just fine. they have had it for like 5 years. its about 8"-9" long. not much room to move around but it always looks happy. i'm trying to talk her into getting a bigger tank.
Looks happy? Do they smile at you? Laugh? Chuckle and tell you how much they love the cramped space? How they've only gotten 9" long because there is no room to grow? Or that they will probably die because their bodies want to keep growing but they physically cannot?Iceman_6104 said:

Just because someone you know is keeping fish in an improper environment -- and you obviously know it's wrong if you are trying to get her to get them a bigger tank -- does not make it right nor valid for you to suggest to someone else that it is okay to do it.

Kissing Gouramis require a 50-55 gallon tank for ONE fish, for two of them you really need to look into a 65 or 75g tank for when they get much bigger.
