I am in the process of cycling my tank..I bought Melafix because one of my fishes developed fin rot and I wanted to save it from death....How will my biofilter be effected..I did not chose antiboitics because I know that it will do my tank in. Melafix is all natural so that is why I chose it..

Melafix does not affect your biofilter. All it does is raise your dissolved organics and give your water a nice scent. It did help treat an ulcer on my goldfish though caused by an injury and does boost immune response in fish so give it a shot. The best way to cure fin rot is by promoting good water quality and reducing stress.
I had that happen to my gourami, I had to do a 100% water change to fix my levels (last resort) I used melafix and it's happy again. It also is helping one of my gourami heal from when a Tinfoil barb took it's eye....the Tinfoils are gone now...
