I have a 125 gallon fish tank with 1 gold severum, 3 turquoise severum, 1 green severum, 1 oscar, and 2 blue acaras. The water quality is good and I do weekly water changes of about 20%.

My gold severum has gotten some stuff on her so I moved her to a new tank to treat her. My problem is I don't know what to treat her with. She has some grayish/brown cobweb like stuff on her sides and head. She's not completely covered. It looks like small cobwebs. They are not hanging off her so I don't believe it is any type of worm. She was itching a lot which is why I moved her out of the larger tank. She would rub her head and gills on rocks.

I added salt and raised the water temp to about 80 in the new tank. I used Parasite Clear tabs that didn't seem to get rid of the cobweb stuff but she stopped itching. She's not eating, but that's probably because she doesn't like her new tank.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I can't find anything on the net about what it might be. I saw something called gray slime/body slime but I'm not sure what that is. Any suggestions would be appreciated. (The Oscar always used to swim around with the Gold Severum and he has not been happy since I took her out!)

Are you sure it is not just where the fish smacked into a rock and is starting to heal or not healing right this has happened to my fish before in the past.

please do not take this the wrong way. with the fish load you have I question whether the water quality can be good. I think if you check out the cichlid sites most of the long time afficianados change much greater amounts than that weekly (many 75+%). Dissolved Organic Compounds (hormones, lipids, pheremones, proteins, amino acids...) given off by fish cannot be measured by the test kits we buy. Nitrates are typically used as a guide -- as they escalate so too will DOC's.

The Osccar is a pretty messy fish--and Severums are hardly a small bodied fish.

Overall I would tend to think of your tank as heavily stocked with "big fish". Think about 50%-60% weekly changes and you may see the absence of a lot of odd and common health issues. Especially with the fish you keep.
