mollies, guppies, clown loaches, tetras, harlequins.

I was treating my mollies for a white fungal growth, sorry cant remember the treatment as its finished and thrown out. Tank was perfectly healthy and had just added some rummy nose tetras, balloon mollies, coolie loaches.

2 days later my tank is really cloudy. Like a white 'mist' flowing with the water. The inside of the tank is 'slimey', and i spotted a 3/4 cm long thin parasite? bending double back and forth on itself floating through the water. Its like a thin 'centipede' without all the legs. Its the only one i can see, but there may be other much smaller ones floating as well, as there is definately 'something' in the water, but i havent seen anything that moves again. There could possibly be minute white balls of fluff floating as well. Sorry, its very hard to be sure.

I also added a couple of new plants, and there appears to be stringy cotton wool trails coming from all the plants now.

My fish are at the top of the tank gasping for air and i have lost 2 fish.

Nitrate - 0
Nitrite - 0
Ammonia - 0
pH - 6.6 (usually 7)

I have done a 25% water change, and it helps the fish for about 30 minutes. I have continued with small frequent changes as well.

Please help in treatment and diagnosis, its late here and there are no shops open.

Many thanks.

Hi,

After searching, I think it is Anchor Worm (lernea). My mollies had long stringy white threads coming from it - i thought it was just irregular poo! Does anyone have any experience of this parasite. Im hoping i will be able to get a treatemt tomorrow morning. Dimlin powder seems to be the only cure?

Please help - any information greatly appreciated - my fish are in real trouble and water changes seem to be making the water more cloudy so have stopped them?

Many thanks.
