Anyone ever tried to make an indoor pond out of brick? It seems like it would be a fairly inexpensive and easy way to build one to me.

If you were to mortar the bricks it could be a nice focal point. Use rubber liner and sandwich the top edge of the liner under the top line of bricks. Don't use the bricks loose as it's an open invitation for an accidental moving of the bricks and a baptism of whatever room it may occupy!!
Other building suggestion would be to use 2x10's or 8's or what have you. Do not use treated wood if there is ANY chance of water dripping from the wood into the water, especially if you want to have any wildlife like fish or snails in the water. For a small indoor water feature there would be minimal sidewall reinforcement needed. I plan on building lily display ponds using that kind of construction this summer for retail.
DO be aware that even 50 gallons of water escaping from an indoor pond can be quite a disaster!!!
I do hope to add a sunroom type room onto my house someday and there WILL be some kind of small pond in there as well. Hoping for brick type floor and a floor drain so if disaster would strike at least I wouldn't ruin something!
It's no worse than an aquarium, but make sure you build so disaster is avoided!!

my cousin works in a pet shop that has numerous indoor brick/narrow cinder block ponds. they dont and i wouldnt use a liner. they use pool paint that is safe for the fish. this has lasted them 10 years. 10 years of high maintenance, filter boxes falling against the sides, koi and water turtles, i cant imagine how short a liner would last. it is a little more expensive than a liner (now sure how much) but will last a lot longer. i think it looks a lot better as well.

Liners are warrantied for like 25 years. If folded neatly and worked with they don't have to look bad. Cost could be a big consideration as well. A liner pond can be relatively easily removed if it is decided to move it outside or if the house were put up for sale. A cement block pond would not be very movable without having to completely re-do it.
Now don't get me wrong..If I had the money my outside pond would be all cement with polyurea (THE big new thing in pond construction)
