i currently only have PC lights on my tank, its 135 gallons and has been running for aroun 18-20 months. one of the lfs i go to just got several green carpet anemones in. my question is if i bought a metal halide pendant, and put it directly over the anemone, would that be enough light. 150 or 250 watt? the light would have to penetrate the water about 14 inches to get to where i think the anemone would like to be. i know they move from time to time if not comfortable, but i could move the pendant also. what do you guys think. i dont really have the money to get my entire tank up to 8 watts a gallon, that would take alot of light. i figure it would kinda be like target feeding with light. any comments welcome, i want negatives with the positives. thanks

Hey Jessie, I don't know much ado about anything, but I think I DO know about carpets! I have a 100gal.reef tank with metal halides that's about a year running. I had a carpet and a clarkii residing in it. But the clarkii was getting too big, fat&bossy with all my other fishies. So I moved both the carpet&clarkii to my 75gal tank with a coralite pc's. They are both doing marvellously, dahling; and it has moved around abit, but has actually settled (for now) at the back left corner of the tank~away from the direct lighting, which I have placed across the centre of the tank! Hmph! Go figure! :duh:

I have a green carpet in a 72gal, and he's doing really well under my 2 x 150w halides. He's positioned himself about 22 inch from lights, 12 inch from water top, then halides sit 10 inch above water. Hope he does well cos they are absolutelly superb creatures, although neither of my clowns has taken a liking to it yet. Do you have Actinic lighting, as they look great under them?
If you buy him be carful putting him into the tank, you'll need to wear gloves.
Can't see why you couldn't light just half of the tank. Just light the spot where you think he'll be happy and he'll move to where ever he thinks is best. Mine doesn't like direct flow from the powerheads.
