I'm going to make my first attempt at breeding fish in my 10 gallon tank that I had set up to be just a quarantine tank. I cycled it with a single danio and now that I have located some female dwarves (somewhat rare to find in my area) I bought two and put them in the tank with the danio. The tank is covered by floating plastic lilly pads and duckweed. My question is whether I should remove the second female? I had heard some fish are polygamistic and I wondered if that would be the case here? I know that gouramis are specific about territories, and I was wondering what positive or negative effects having 2 females with 1 male? All else aside, I'm going to allow the two females to settle in for a few weeks before I attempt anything. I'd like any tips or experiences you can share about dwarves.

This is something I want to watch I'm very interested in breeding dwarf gouramies if I could find a female.

Yeah finding that female was a month of being patient and calling my LFS. Anyone with any experience in breeding gouramis, please share your info here!

im not an expert but if i were you i would leave both females in the tank untill there are eggs in the bubble nest. the advantage of having two females in there is that aggresion is shared between them both and not just on one female. consider putting real floating plants in there, and make sure hat there are several refuges for the females. once there are eggs, remove the females from the tank and try to make sure that the air just above the water is warm and moist. also you're right about leaving the females in there to get established befor the male is added. and lastly good luck!

Wow I wish I could find some females. Does anyone know why they are so rare?

could be because they look very drab. shops probably have trouble selling them.

I think thats right on. I would just be patient and even try asking if you can request a few females. My LFS contacted me when they had some in, but I waited a day on it and they were all gone by the time I checked it out. I was just lucky enough to be there on the right day at the right time when they were recieving new fish and they had 3-4 females in their tank.
