Ich irradication period

I recently purchased a blue ram who developed ich. I quarantined him in my new 6 gallon, but unfortunatley he still passed away on Friday. I put salt in the tank on Thursday.

I was planning on making this tank into a small shell dweller tank...how long do you think I should wait before assuming the ich is gone? Should I just empty everything and thoroughly clean it..then re-cylce the tank?

If the tank is totally empty, no fish, just leave it running for a week. Add fish food or a little ammonia to keep the bacteria well fed and you won't have to recycle it.

Ich cannot live without a fishy host and will die.

More problems.

I have lost 3 loaches from the 29 I originally put the ram into. Additionally, I have lost 2 Otos, who have not shown any visible signs of Ich. Is this normal? Both fish showed a curved tail after death, and the loach I lost today spent his last couple of minutes with his tail curved on the ground. Could this be an outbreak of TB simaltenously? HELP!! So dissapointing/frustrating :(
 
Unfortunately when you originally posted you did not say that you had originally put the ram in the 29g. The impression was that you got a new ram and QT'd him in the 6 gallon -- without putting him in with the other fish.

Since the ram was not quarantined and put into your 29g, you need to treat the 29 gallon for ich as well.

And yes, your fish can die from ich even though they do not show any white spots. Ich can remain hidden in a fish's gils for quite some time.
