Is it just me or is anyone else sick of how much America obsesses with the rich and famous? Every time I turn on the T.V. or log onto the web it's all I see, so and so got married, so and so had a baby, so and so split up. It seems that every year it gets worse and worse.

For example, everyone freaked out when Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt split up. Then there was all the hoopla about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, now it's all about them having a baby. People have gone as far as predicting this unborn child will be the most beautiful baby in the world.

The other thing that really agrevates me is when the press combines couples names, like Bennifer, TomKat, etc. This is just so incredibly stupid to me, I don't understand it?!?! These are normal, regular people, the only difference is that they have over-inflated egos due to the hero-worship that is now common place.

Does this annoy the hell out of anyone else?

If you watch the news it does kinda get in the way sometimes. I wonder who ever decided that people that acted in movies and TV shows were important? Certainly not me.

the whole combining of names thing drives me up a wall! brangelina. ..sounds like a new cereal!

It's getting worse, too. A couple of weeks ago I caught a piece of Good Morning America before work. They spent all of a minute on the kids that are dying in Iraq and a full 15 minutes on what's happening on the new episode of Desperate Housewives. I turned it off and was pi$$ed all day. There's our typical American's social priority. The media plays a game of misdirection to keep us focused on the pretty lights and not what's really going on around us.
Most of us are all too happy to cooperate; goosestepping our way into blissful consumerism. We tend to ignore what's not right in our faces. In stead of thinking about painful, distasteful subjects it's much easier to change the channel. All the media hype and cutesy names are just helping to keep the herd moving.

Well, some times we need to fill out empty brains with empty contents.

I love watching TV, and most of the time I can find my TV tuned on Discovery channel, History or even Cartoon Network. You will almost never find me watching MTV or news channels.

Here in Costa Rica we get some "news programs" made by Univison in Miami, (Primer Impacto, Al rojo vivo, etc...) that pretty much base their investigation on the Werewolf that lives in the basement, the Chupacabras and stuff. Also, they feast on showing crying people in front of the cameras after a natural tragedy. It's awful, and worst is that those programs have the highest ratings around.

And let's not forget those talkshows where the hosts spend a lot of time critizicing (¿?sp) the horrible dress this girl wore at the grammys or whatever event for that matter.

Low low low

I believe that the focusing on celebrity "news" is due to a total lack of creativity within the television industry. Noone has any real ideas for shows, so they focus on celebrity lifestyles to fill the void. And the public lap it up because they have no choice. If better shows were written, I'm sure that people would respond. Until then, we'll be tortured by mindless celebrity gossip shows and inane, fake "reality" shows like "The Bachelor". I mean, people are actually watching shows about people cleaning up other people's apartments!!! How low can we go?

Except Louise Fletcher, Lorretta Swit and Sally Kellerman of course. Sorry Nursie coudn't help myself.

Of course if we're really sick of celebrity hoopla why even bring this up. Society isn't going to change - TV caters to what sells. It's just giving the people what they want.

The ironic thing is posting this topic just furthers the problem. We're sick of hearing about them so let's talk about them instead.

Me I enjoy my mindless entertainment and if I don't like what's on I change the channel.
