I currently have 3 Upside Down Catfish (USD) and they tend to stay in hiding all day ( Yes, they are nocturnal ) I am wanting to see them a bit more so I'm wondering if I place a peice of floating wood in the tank do you think the USD would anchor itself to the bottom of the floating wood instead of hiding all day?

Yes as long as your wood is in one spot not moving around all the time. My usd like to hide in the drif wood on the bottom but I have had them for awhile so they frequently come out and are not very shy.

Ok thanks. Would it be a good idea to give each of them a seperate hiding place rather than have all 3 of them under the same log? I've heard that they school when they are young.

when they get older you will probably need seperate hiding places. My oldest USD catfish is close to 5" long so you can see when they get bigger they will need lots of room. Mind you it is also 10 years old...who said they dont live long lol

Synodontis eupterus is commonly available and sometimes sold as a usd. Mine stays upside down at rest but usually feeds right side up. My Asian usd on the other hand usually feeds upside down as well.
