I decided to start a 5 1/2 gal nano reef got it all set up pre rinsed the sand like the bag said to do and put it in the tank then added the water ended up with alot of sand floating on top of the tank which has all settled now but there is alot of air in the sand bed so it makes it look like some of the sand is still floating is this normal or is there something I should do or did I do something wrong?

how big are the bubbles we are talking here? has your tank started to cycle yet? bubbles in the sand are often waste gases such as nitrogen. if you pop them, it could be deadly to your tank. if this is the case, then it means yoru sandbed is doing its job.

the tank is set up using everything from an established tank other then the tank its self so the everything has already been thru its cycle and the bubble arent really any bigger then 2-3 grains of sand ( oh the sand is new I had crushed coral in the other tank but everything else water and everything is from a cycled tank)
