In an attempt to create better enviroment for a fish my hubby had, we upgraded tanks. We did the research, but apparently not enough (please do not flame me we are doing the best we can). In the new tank was our old very aggresive hybrid female (still not sure as to exactly what she is other than a malawi) and what turns out to be a lombardoi male.
This is not what it was labeled when we purchased him because we sure as heck would not have got him. We placed them in together (as recommended on another thread). Needless to say after two weeks the female has been beat to hell.
So she has been pulled and placed in another tank (no Kribs we did not put her back in the little tank).

So here is the question:we are treating her with Furaloid to avoid bacterial infections from the bites she recieved. Does anyone have experience with the product (it was recommended at the LFS). Anything else we should look for?
Other than that she is a bit tattered and has a bit of bruising. She is coming around in the new tank and eating again. A bit of her original personality is coming back.

Yikes... thats too bad she got beat up... but with africans it happens so easily, thats why you have to be very careful when mixing species together. I had a feeling that would happen with the kenyi cus they can be such aggressive brats.... and you only had the two of them together. You really need to overstock these guys... but in order to do that you need a 75 gallon tank... its a vicious cycle!

I have had no experience with that product, but if its a antibiotic it should be good to help prevent infection on her open wounds. Fins will heal with time but she may have some permanent scarring on her body. Just give her a chance to recover and she'll be fine :).

Your welcome to ask for advice for stocking your tank... i'd love to help out. You should for sure work around your lady there, since you have had her for so long. Its hard though knowing her temperment because we arent sure exactly what she is, but stocking her with other mild-med mbuna would probebly work out fine. When the time comes, let me know ;).

thank you muchly. she is looking better all ready, we removed her 12 hours ago.
i will drop you a line (without the purple string) as soon as we get to that point. we are getting ready to move back into town, we are currently in a small burg eleven miles hubby's home town (no big deal where i am from- but folks around here think it's a huge distance). i think we are going to hold off on any more changes/additions until we are established in our new "tank."

thanks again.
