I need some advice here from your aquarium excperts, i bought a tank about 1year ago, and last week the UV bulb died (r i thought), so after all the trouble of finding a replacment bulb, i put it in and.....it still didnt work, now im not sure what i should do the tank has been without light for about 1 week now its only a small tank, i think the switch on the lid of the tank has gone but im not sure, is they anyother way i can get a UV light like some external one, the tank is only a small 13gallon hexagonol one with some electrics in the lid for light and pump to work..now im stumped i dont know what to do i cant leave the tank in darkness. :help:

Sounds like you have a fluorescent light not a UV (ultra violet) light.
Check where the bulb plugs in to make sure its not corroded. However, the problem is most likely with the ballast.
Do a google search on fluorescent ballast. One to power the size lamp you have should be fairly inexpensive. Also, on the ballast itself you'll get the power ratings and possibly even the company that made it where you maybe able to order a replacement.

I think a UV bulb would pretty much fry your fish :thud:
Its either fluorescent or incandescent.
Any chance of taking the whole hood into a pet store? It sounds like an Eclipse tank, which most fish stores can help you order.
