Greetings! I am starting up a new 40 gallon tank, it has been ten years since I have had a fresh water aquarium. I have read many of these threads but none specific to a 40 gallon set-up. If anyone could answer a few of the following questions it would be most appreciated!!
1. Is an under gravel filter AND a over the tank filter over-kill? Suggestions?
2. I am a huge fan of live plants but haven't had much success in the past. What would be proper lighting for this size tank and to house as many plants as possible?
3. I just read a post re: where the person used sand instead of gravel for the bottom. I am a big fan of kuhlii loaches and other diggers, would sand be better for them AND acceptable for other fish and plants?
