In my newly setup 5 gallon tank I have spot like algae growing. Im used to getting greenish patches but not small green spots. They are spots that cover the entire tank walls and only upon close inspection can you see its formed a complete cover. Im wondering if introducing snails will help? Its a 5 gallon tank with 5 guppies and one african dwarf frog.

If it is on the glass a simple alage scrapper (pad mag float etc...) will do the trick. That type of algae is tough so will need a little elbow grease but can be removed. I like to do it just before a water change to get a lot of spores out of the water that will get stirred up. Make it a part of your weekly water change regieme and there will be little to no algae on your glass.

For now that is what im doing, by hand. Im just wondering if snails can take care of it why not add some variety into the tank and lesson some work, do snails take care of small dotted ones?

I have it in my tank too, but I just use a razor to scrape it off. it's much faster than the mag float thingy. this algae is way too hard for the snails, I think, as well as for plecos.
try to get as much off as you can at once. it will make it grow not as fast.
