I have a new Odyssea B28 Tank (28gallons) it looks similar to the Jebo ones. It came with sponge type filter system on the hood. I'm not sure if that's sufficient enough for a filtration system. I was thinking about getting a protein skimmer but the hood isn't designed to have any hang-on tank attachments only room for hoses and cords. Please advise. Thanks in advance for any input...

a skimmer is not necesary... however... it is "nice" to have for more filtration... when doing a marine setup, the more filtration you can give the tank, the better. if the tank you bought has only built in filter, you may consider buying a canister type filter and if you desire, a protein skimmer you can put "in line". most canisters work off of a hose system as well as skimmers. in doing a canister filter with a setup as you described, it will help filter more water and add more circulation inside tank, as you want absolutely no stagnant water spots...

Skimmer is an almost definate, they are the only way to remove proteins in the water, and i would definately get one, also current is a big thing if this is to be set up reef, 30 x turnover per hour is the least you want, prehaps you could get a small sump, and run an in sump skimmer, or just have the unit external and pies feeding water from a pump to the powerhead, and then pipes from the powerhead back into the tank.

Do you know any particular brands that have an in-line hookup to the canister filter? I'm really tight on space for now so I can't really get a sump tank. I'm debating if I should just take out the back part of the hood so I can use a hang-on skimmer but I would really like it fully covered unless odyssea makes a replacement cover without the attached filter in it so u can use hangon attachments? I need to do what's best for my fish (grr decisions decisions lol) Thanks again for the input.

So i decided to just take off the back part of the hood so I can use a hang-on protein skimmer. Does anyone know of a good type protein skimmer for a 28 gallon tank? The ones that I see that have good reviews are all for large tanks.
