I've been looking at snowflake eels for about a week, but everything thus far I've found on the internet has been poop. There are sites that say they are saltwater, some say freshwater but add some salt, so I don't even know if I'm posting in the right category. Any clarification you can give would be helpful and maybe a website that doesn't have poop.

The problem is that many eels reproduce in freshwater, and the fry migrate to brackish or marine conditions as they mature. Snow flake eels are sold as any of the three. In order to live a normal life span, they need to be in marine or high brackish fairly early on--which means acclimating them slowly if you are only able to purchase them from FW.

Fishbase.org is a good site, as is wetwebmedia

Ok, thanks a lot. **************** recommends 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt for every five gallons. They also say 50 gallons is okay for them, but that seems small for something that will grow to be 2 feet or larger.

Aquarium salt will NOT work. It doesn't create marine or brackish water in any amount, rather, it creates salted water. Marine mix contains the trace elements and buffers needed for brackish/marine animals.

A 50 will be big enough for one. While they get 2 foot long, they are very flexible, long and slender, plus they aren't that active. They can be messy, though, so adeqaute filtration will be required, and since they will consume most crustaceans and cleaners, that will be up to you and a good filter/water change schedule.

Will once a month work? That's how often I do my goldfish, guppy and dino (bichir) eel tanks. A 75 Gallon would still be better than a 55 gallon if I can do it though right? As for adequate filtration, what kind of filter do you recommend? Can I get one for a tank size bigger than the one I have? Would that make it cleaner?

A10% water change weekly is better than a big monthly water change. A bigger system will be better for the eel. Once you have your eel train it to eat off a feeding stick. This will help water quality and keep your hands safe.

Sometimes they will hide their food so watch the eel during feeding.

Ok. Do you recommend any brand of filter over another... I'm assuming a freshwater filter is different than a saltwater?

I’m an advocate of skimmers. This will require a marine environment.

I'm going to get the Saltwater Aquariums for Dummies and read up on that. When it comes to talking about things like salinity and other things, I have a basic idea, but not definite so I'll get back in about three years when I finish reading it...lol.

Hehee. You can always ask the forums. There are intelligent people here. Speed read..ok.. :)
