I'm getting a 29 gallon and I was thinking about putting in a couple cories, a redtail shark, and a school of tiger barbs. Will this work? Also, do I really need an algae eater? Any suggestions would be great.

Yeah, it'll have plants - I'm not sure which ones yet, but it will definetly have live plants. And also, would a ram or two be compatible with these fish?

Also, if the barbs aren't such a good idea, i'll need another smaller schooling fish - preferably one that's fairly active, like the barbs.

With live plants, it is helpful to have algea eaters. Of course, I would stay away from the Chinese Algea Eaters.

I thought the sharks get relatively huge over time?

Tetras are always a good choice for schoolers! and they get along with just about everyone!

Perhaps a couple dwarf gouramis & a bunch of tetras!

As far as an Algae Eater, one of the smaller variety of Plex would work...Perhaps a Bristle Nose Plex.
