As most of the regulars know, I love my sharks, and after a long and stressfull attempt to save one of them from a then unknown affliction, last week it died.

At the time I didnt know what caused it. It would swim normal, then flip upside down, then right itself, bulging stomach, clamped fins, and staying on the bottom. I tried everything in my power to no avail.

Here is that thread...

Then a few days ago another shark began showing the same symptoms. I researched everything I could for a cause, bacterial infection, virus, whatever. The day before yesterday, I found out that my fiance, without me knowing, had been overfeeding with flake food for the last week. Can't blame her, I couldnt do the morning feed because of work.

Since then have reduced the feeding to once a day and only frozen blood worms. The shark seemed to get better but today, while hes not flipping anymore, he's not even swimming. He will only stay on the bottom and will not eat.

I am thinking this one has a real chance so I am going to QT him. I will be placing him into my hospital tank and see if I can help him improve.

Now my question, other than QT, giving him a diet of frozen peas, and keeping a close eye, is there anything else I should do? Remember I am convinced this is related to overfeeding.

FYI.... I think he will be dead by morn.

shark

I have a oascar that had the same problem he would freek out bash himself turn upside down and almost died turns out it was internal parasite treated it with jungle labs parasite gone for 2 weeks he also had stringy poop have you noticed this with youre shark .what are youre water readinds could be youre water do you have a test kit do you use declorinater 40 gallon is small for sharks they get biger than oscars what kind of filter do you have how often do you change water .

I am meticulous with water changes they are done every Saturday Afternoon like clockwork. Water conditions are normal as usual. Tank is cycled.

Now that you mention it I have noticed some semi-transparent string like "things" in my tank. But I have also seen the same thing in like a fuzzy ball type. Extremely small and not too many.

If the fishes poop longer than normal and white its a parasite what are youre amo and nitrite nitrate readings what declorinater do you use what do you feed them ??

use the jungle labs parasite gone tabs there cheap 2.99 for a 8 pack and they wont hurt youre good bacteria they also have the food but my fish wont eat it .

Right now my 3 remaining sharks and the pleco are showing no signs of infection. I will definitely pick that up in the morn just in case although I know that it may have been overfeeding. Better safe than sorry I guess.

As far as the shark in the QT tank, hes not doing very good although he's still got some fight in him. Unfortunately I can see that I will have to euthanize this one as well.

Well I just euthanized the shark. Once in the QT tank it continued flipping and finally gave up trying to get upright. This is exactly what happened to my last shark.

:(

Wish I could help.

I watched your movie and yes, I've seen that before. I lost two gouramis the same way, months ago. I do not know what it is.

They were fine and then suddenly they were not. It did not spread to any other fish in my tank and none of my other fish were gouramis.

Have you tried some forums that are frequented by shark keepers? This may be something that only sharks get.
