:hi:

I'm new to this site, here's my first post:
I'll describe my tank:
5g FW
small gravel
rocks, driftwood
one plant (plan to get more)
1 spotted cory
2 zebra danios
3 algae shrimps

I have had this setup as above for 2 years. Had a beta, which was very happy. I recently had a weird fungal infection take over my entire tank, i had a 50% death rate. Thank god my tank is back to normal.

I was wanting to get some more fish... any body have any recommendations!? I like beta's, so i will probably definelty get one of those again. How do you guys feel about guppies??

Thanks for reading...

Are you upgrading to a larger size? BETTAS, as in a Betta , would be good in that 5 gallon and you could put the rest into a larger tank. Don't forget all your gravel, driftwood etc disperses water room. So you do not have a full 5 gallons in your tank as well.

Here is a calculator and you can type in your measurements, then minus the inches in height for how much substrate is on the bottom and how much lip room you have on top.

Here are articles on what is good for the betta

while what pers mentioned would be a conservative method of playing it, ive never much been for neurotic mathatics.

but il give you some hints.

1. the danios need a larger tank (not because of bioload but because they need area to run.)

2. corys do better in groups. (ill help you with this in a minute.)

3. whats your light wattage.

ok now try to get a bigger tank a 10g cost about 10 bucks a filter cost about 10 bucks and a heater cost about 10 bucks so 30 bucks to make some of your stuff more comfortable still not long enuff for the danios but it will seem less like torture to them.

a 5g isnt much to work with but im a little more liberal than most you will talk to on here.

the cory is its a peppered cory only gets to 2.5 inches that would work in a 10 gallon cause you need to get 3. but you could get 3 nanus cories or pygmys that only get to 1 inch for your 5g (note i keep 2 peppers in my 5g but they were about inseaperable and wouldnt play with anyone else so they got their own tank, err well the bottom of it anyhow.)

im kinda at a crossroads with guppies. i used to think they were boring and lacked personality, untill i gave them some plants and a big ole ship to hide in if they need. now they seem more fishlike. and one of the girls is about to make babies soon so thats interesting. but im agaisnt breeding fish with the intent to make their fins so long they become almost useless . my betta was a rescue and my guppies were a gift from my wife. ( although im not agaisnt the shorter finned guppies)

keep in mind when looking at my sig that i do 50% waterchanges twice a week also if i decide to keep guppy fry i have 3 more empty tanks but ill probably end up feeding them to my serpae tetras or my blackskirt.
