On Saturday I purchased a new weather loach. Stupid me, stuck him right in the tank. On Monday night I did a 40% water change. On Tuesday Morning, baby weather loach was dead, tuesday afternoon old weather loach was dead, but he had a swim bladder problem. Last night, I get home and my banjo cat is sitting in the front of the tank...his skin looked terrible!! He almost looked as if he had been burned, welts...white skin. peeling...then I notice my upside down catfish is looking similar..welts skin discoloration.. the betta also looked as if he was peeling from a sunburn or something and he was discolored. By the end of the night mr banjo catfish was dead and this morning my betta was dead. All of the other fish look fine though. I got my test kit out to test the water last night and the instructions and the color cards are missing so today I have to purchase a new test kit. Does anyone know what would cause these symptoms? Why would it only affect the bottom feeders and the betta? ARRRGGG!!!! :help:

You night have introduced some kind of diseaso to the tank with the new fish. That's why we should always quarentine out fish before introducing them to the main tank.

I can't tell what really happened, but now you must watch carefully the other fish ans start a strong water change routine (maybe 50% daily during a week) to help remove any virus or bacteria.

You definitely should get new test kits, but it doesn't sound like an ammonia spike or anything like that. As Patoloco said, it sounds like you introduced a disease.

I'm not telling you to treat the disease. In fact, I have not recommended anything but to make a cleaner enviroment (by water changes) so your other fish will have a better chance against a posible disease that might have been introduced.

So, I should do a 50% water change daily? Is that good? Wont that stress out the fish? Pouring water into the tank seems to stress them out. It is a 55g by the way. Should I remove all the plants(fake) and the decorations and clean them in bleach also?
