G'day,
Can you help me know how close to a 400W Metal Halide bulb I can place a 6mm piece of clear acrylic? I'm concerned the heat produced by the single-ended bulb might melt the acrylic. The standard black cone shaped reflector unit is holding the typical 1 inch thread Edison style screw in bulb. (Sorry I don't know the right terms.) There are no venting holes in the reflector unit and so I presume some gap is necessary.
Cheers,
Steve

The real question is why you want to block out light by putting a shield in front of a MH bulb!

Keep the MH bulb 10"-12" above the water and you dont need a shield.
