RO - this much waste water possible?

Picked up a second hand Kent Marine RO unit that supposedly had less than 30 minutes usage.

Got home plugged it in and rather quickly had 19 gallons of waste water and less than 1/4 cup good water!

Is this possible? Even for a break-in period?

Any comments or thoughts?

LOL, never seen that much wasted in a break in period, i would take it back if you can, or check the membranes and see it the unit is all ok.

i have looked into ro units, and the salesman said for one of them that for the first 10 hours or so that it would produce 99% waste water - then after that it would create 1 gallon of good water for every 4 gallons of waste water.
