Just another one of the abuses people find necessary for bettas. Thought I'd share this.

"Do you have a betta fish as a pet?"
If you keep it in one of those, it is not a pet.
How big a bulb goes in it? I suppose if you use a 100 watt it will heat the water.
I thought the betta vase was low.
Hmmm, a lamp with water in it constructed by an amature. I think that is a great idea.

101 things to do with a Betta. Just yesterday here in Ohio the local Akron Beacon Journal printed an article on Bettas. Along with how fascinating and feisty these fish are a local fish store mentioned they sell 50-100 a week and during the summer they get orders for 50-100 for weddings. They are being used as centerpieces at wedding instead of flowers.

I just sent the seller the following message:
"That contraption is not a good idea. In fact, it is very cruel. Not only is that not large enough for a betta to live, the heat from the lamp will either make it sick or kill it."

Yeah, I was on a committee to plan an awards ceremony, and someone suggested that we use live fish as decorations. Thankfully, the idea was dismissed.
If there was such thing as reincarnation, those people should be reborn as feeder goldfish or bettas themselves.

I got a response back from the seller.
She said:
"Thank you for your concern, however, it is not cruel. The vase used is made for betta fish. I suggest that you contact the maker of the vases "Indiana Glass Company" and voice your concern. Also, if the OWNER of the lamp is responsible, he or she will not leave the light on all day long."

As if the fact that the vase was made especially for Bettas actually makes a difference.

Well, seeing as heat rises and there is no top on the lamp I don't think heat is a problem. But, changing the water and having to remove the lamp part probably would be annoying. Plus the added effect of electrical shock.

Conduction.

I don't think the conduction would amount to anything. I would have to look at the actual light fixture to be able to tell.

Bettas are being used as centerpieces at wedding instead of flowers.
My son and his future wife went to a wedding with these at every table right before he was shipped out to Iraq over a year ago. Raquel brought the betta home and kept him for almost the whole year David was gone. She was very meticulous with betta's care but alas, he died about two months ago. At the time we were most upset; naturally for the fish who had fought the good fight, but also because he had become a symbol of David's welfare. As long as betta was well, we felt David would also be well. The last month of David's deployment was very stressful for all of us after betta died. What is the point of this story? I don't know, except to say at least one betta from a wedding went on to have a pampered, meaningful life.

What about the flashy pimp in the movie "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" who had glass heels w/ goldfish in them? A must-have item!
Isn't he the guy who died from an OG? (Over-gold)
