The Dovii and the umbees when adults. I dont know which is tougher lb. for lb. though. I still wonder which is tougher. I posted a thread about it and ask people for their experiences and the Mod closed it up.. How nice of them huh?

Check out the Umbee on this site http://www.cichlidscene.com
I say umbee hands down!
If this is just for fun, I will move it to the General Chit Chat. And I'll play. Define "toughest"? Specifically what are you asking?.

The peacock bass in S.A. Used to be called cichla ocellaris. I'm sure the taxonomists have changed it by now.

If we're going to humor the guy then my vote would be for the Vampire Tetra.

Cichlids, IceH2O.
Biggest in size would be...at least in CA/SA cichlids wither the Dovii or the Umbee depending on where you get the information. By "baddest"...what? Define the term.

ok so u assume that just because I ask a question I must automatically be thinking about fighting some fish. First of all Im not going to spend money on something that is going to die. second I would never think of fighting my fish because I know I wouldnt want to be put in that situation. The other day My managuenses where breeding and the red devil and my male managuense where fighting. the managense was fighting becuz he was protecting his mate and eggs. and the red devil was fighting because, well, he is an *** :p: but I still love my red devil. so I went out and purchased a 60 gal just for my red devils ( I have two, the male was being the bully) If I seriously wanted to fight them do u think I would have spent $300 just for my red devils and managuenses? next dont assume anything, be open minded and do the math first ask questions then u can make a conclution. If u make assumtions right away without doing any research than that makes u ignorant. Oh and FYI I am the head of fish department at my local petco and it would look pretty bad on my record for fighting fish. I love my fish and would never do anything to hurt them, someguy wanted to buy my red devil for $80, and he even said he would go higher, I told him to remove himself from my presence. so next time dont make an *** out of urself and dont make assumtions without the data. Have u ever thought that maybe just maybe Im just curious and want to know without trying it? If I was to fight them I wouldnt ask questions I would just do it and get the answer for my self. and MoJo I know ur just trying to do ur job but can u layoff just a little bit from people like me? I know Mightybetta asked a question like that a while ago and was temporarily banned but 9out of10 he/she was just curious. anyway I said what needed to be said the rest is up to u.

Oh yeah the quote was by ICEH2O he he my bad
I've never seen a wolf cichlid, but I'll tell you, Jaguars are pretty mean!

Please re-read my response. I believe I answered at least part of the question and asked a clarifying question about "baddest".
Big doesn't necessarily mean "bad". I had a four inch Rainbow Cichlid that was the dominant male in a tank. I moved him and his "attitude to a tank with juvenile Citrinellum. He proceeded to badger the much larger fish...eventually killing one of them. Most of the damage in a situation like this is due to the stress of being harassed.
There was a study done a while back where fish were allowed to establish dominance in the tank. They took the fish out and power fed the less dominant until it was substantially larger. The fish were then reintroduced. The less dominant and now much larger continued to back down from the much smaller fish.
I read the article in a book called "Fish Behavior" by Stephan Reebs. If you haven't seen it...get it. Excellent book.
The study was about "Aquired Predator recognition in juvenile rainbow trout. (Oxcorbynchus mykiss): Conditioning hatchery reared fish to recognize chemical cues of a predator. It was published in the Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences(1998), 611-17. The study was done by G.E.Brown and R.J.F. Smith
Again...I can't recommend that other book enough. Plain english and practical applications. I have dogeared my copy from reading.
As for going easy...I have no idea what you are referring. I simply moved this thread to the appropriate forum. And it's not a job...I am a volunteer like all the other mods and admin.

Here's a photo I took of my friends Umbee for size reference. To properly house one adult male you need a tank in the 300+ gallon range.

The fish you are referring is the Tilapia Butikoferi...I blieve it is a West African Cichlid...and looks like a guppy next to the Umbriferum.

This is a photo of my male Dovii at 20". This fish also looks small next to the Umbee.

If I was to draw a comparison...this guy looks like a basketball player, but the Umbee looks like a lineman for the NFL.
