I've had a pretty bad hair algae problem for a few months now. I'm tired of it and being diligent about it's removal. Here are my water parameters:
my ph is really high at about 8.5
KH & GH are at 40mg/L
no co2, no dosing ferts
nitrate is at 5mg/L
phosphates are at 1mg/L
no tracealble ammonia
This is off the top of my head from testing last night. A week ago I took all the plants out of my tank and gave them a good scrub to get the bulk of the hair off. I've been doing 10g (25%) water changes of aged water every 3 days. I cut light from 96w to 55w which is quite low light for a 24" deep tank. It contains mostly various species of anubias and just recently some floating water sprite. As a result I'm starting to see the hair algae turn brown in most places. I believe the algae is coming from the high level of phosphates. Anyone care to give me some advice to get this tank back in shape?
Thanks,
Johnny
