it's a little early to be planning on what type of aquarium i'll have in three years, but i can't help myself. I'm giving away all my fish right now, and moving to china for two and a half years. When I come back and figure out the whole what-to-do-with-the-rest-of-my-life thing, in intend to set my aquarium up again.

I've had my current set up pretty much the whole time i've had my tank. I love my single angelfish, and am facinated by it. I'm thinking when I come back and set it back up, i'd like to make it mostly an angelfish tank, with some bottom feeders.

How many angels can I put in there? I've read keeping them in odd numbers is better, so I'm hoping five. But maybe only three would be appropriate for my tank? What do you think?

edit: can i put several different colors and shaps of angelfish in the same tank, or are angelfish uh... republicans? thanks

you can put any type of angelfish together

since they can grow to about 6-8 inches from top, to bottom fin, and about 4-5 inches nose to tail

i would put maybe..5 that that would probabaly be it for the tank

MMmmm i say 4, two couples... as they will get very agressive if one of the couple hatch

rule of thumb for angels
1 angel per 10 gallons
for your 50 gallon you could stock 5 angles will get big and can measure 4" on the body(does not include fins)
you should have no problems mixing colors.
since there is no way to sex the angels you may wind up with a breeding pair(if you're lucky)
at that point a pair will get territorial(generally) and you may need to move them to another tank.

until then..you should be okay.

Depending on the size, you could probably get about 200 in there, if you stack them just right! I'm not sure, but I don't think political affiliation has anything to do with it. It's more of how good you are at balancing the differant shapes and sizes.

I advise 3 - 5 and you can pretty much guarantee that some will have to be moved as they reach maturity. There are bound to be territoy issues as the fish pair up, whether it be 2 or 4 of them, it will happen. And Angels being cichlids, the fights can be quite nasty.

Id only have 3 in that tank, 1 male and 2 females. I would also then think about preperation for a larger tank for when the fish mature ;)

the problem with that idea, Dark is that when the Angels are juvies (which they will be more than likely), it's next to impossible to tell the difference in sex.... so initially getting 2 females and 1 male would be impossible.

I wouldn't do more than 2, myself. Preferably a breeding pair.
