I just set up my new Emperor 400 filter a few hours ago. It runs fine other than the fact that it seems to be pretty noisy. I have a millennium 3000 running along with it and its by far the noisiest filter i have heard. Has anyone else had any problems with their emperor being noisy or is this just how this filter usually runs. By the way I have reseated the impeller assembly a couple times with no improvement.

Emps can be loud if there is air or crud in the impeller well. Also, if the intake tube isn't fully seated into the impeller well it will be loud, too. Does changing the flow control lever (on top of impeller well) make a difference? Sometimes, if my Emp has drained dry during a water change, I have to turn it off for a minute after it's refilled to let the air rise out of the impeller. It should not be loud.

Note that the splashing noise from the biowheels WILL be loud for the first few several days until the wheels become saturated. That loud, grinding, Oster-blender-on-acid noise is not normal, though.

Sometimes when all the water gets out of my Emps(when I take a lot of the water out), it takes a long time for them to start back up and then it is insanely loud. When I first heard it, I thought that something was happening outside ;). It helps if you put a lot of water in them when you plug them in so that the noise is so loud. I do it when I am filling up the tank with my python, it helps a lot.
