I am very new to the world of saltwater tanks and have been given a ton of advice from stores trying to sell me their most expensive products. I have been researching for over 2 months now and just want to make sure I have everything I need to do this right. I have a 65 Gal tank and that’s it. I am planning on having Live Rock and if everything goes smooth over time I would like to get Corals. I am trying to figure out what products I really need and which ones the Stores are just trying to sell me.
Any advice on types of filters (Canisters - Wet/dry ect.) Skimmers, sumps, Ect. Ect. Will greatly be appreciated!!!!!
Thanks,
Jason

Hey Jason I am fairly new to the salt water world too. I have been researching this for over 3 months now. From what I gather using live rock and live sand as your filter with a sump would be the most ideal. Skimmer is a must too. Keep an eye on this forum and take a look at BRS http://bostonreefers.org/forums/ they are local to your area. I am in NH so they are local to me too. This forum is great too. Just read as much as you can. I think I will be starting my tank the end of this month. Good luck!

I'll second that, i have tried all the gadgets to "save" myself the expense of liverock i' tried wet dry, canister filter, fbf filter however none can compare to the results i now achieve using live rock and a skimmer (no other filter) crystal clear water, perfect readings and happy active fish!
save yourself the time and money get the liverock and skimmer!

Get a sump big enough to house a heater, protien skimmer, and return pump maybee spit it in hald and have a refugium with life rock sand and some macro algae
it doesn't need to be a huge tank maybee a 55 seen as your main tank is so large
