Another of my endless questions. Sorry guys. But I have been looking for some kind of floating plants for my set up for some time. No where near me sells anything of the sort. I am currently looking at a vase thingy across the room on a desk counter that has a plant that is in a vase of water and no soil. It has been there somewhere close to 6 months. Just wondering, if a clipping happened to fall into my briefcase on the way home, do you think it would be ok in a tank? Also, I have no idea what the plant is. Just long branches with green heart shaped leaves.

those plants do well with thier roots in water but have to have the foliage emersed. you could use it over your tank to help keep nitrates down since it would use some to grow, but the dangleing roots being unsightly is why such things are usually done as separate veggie filters.

plant clipping has been aquired

I am going to give it a shot to see the outcome. Only thing is, there is really no overhead in the tank for the leaves. I am wondering if they can be submerged or may be if they are only partially submerged. It seems since they need no soil, the whole thing can be submerged as long as I provide the ferts, co2 and keep my lighting on schedules.
