hey
just saying hello, i joined this forum because i was curious as to see if i really needed an air pump w/ airstone, because the bubbles make my water look dirty, and i would really just prefer to get rid of it.

i have been searching, and i believe i found my answer to be: no, i don't need it, my filters and powerhead will be enough. am i correct?

just saying thanks ahead of time for the info, this looks like a great forum!

Give us some details. Tank size, filter, # & type of fish if you want to be sure... or you can look at it like this...

You don't need an airstone if your filter is pushing enough water, and moving enough GPH to handle aerating your tank size. You don't want dead zones... Some filters provide more aeration. Plants will add oxygen to water.

If you ever have an overstocked tank (not that I suggest it but I've had to "rescue" fish before and house them inappropriately) air stones are handy and help add some oxygen I'm sure by agitating the surface.

Many species of fish will gulp for air at the surface if they are oxygen deprived.

no problem....here is the info: from what i know

55 gallon tank

marineland biowheel 350 filter (350 gph)
cheap aquatec 30 gph filter

tetra heater (don't remember how many watts...but my temp is within 1 degree at all time....78 right now)

profile 5500 air pump (it will stay connected to a decoration that lets out bubbles...but i want to get rid of my bubble wall air stone thingy)

150 gph power head (don't remember brand off hand)

i'm thinking about going out and getting another......more powerful powerhead

i like the way my plants (fake that is) move around with the current, but i HATE how "dirty" the bubble wall makes my tank look

thanks again for your help
