I've just upgraded my 1g reef to a 2.5g All-glass. The main focus of the set up is a mini lagoon formed from a flat piece of liverock about 2in from the surface. Addtional pieces of liverock are stacked around the edge so that they protrude about 1/4 in above the surface of the water. The tank is about 3/4 full (getting a stable LR formation to break the surface was too difficult when filled to capacity).

I am playing with the idea of using the 1g to construct a carleson (spelling?) surge device. I know i can control the amount of the surge by lengthening or shortening the siphon intake, but how big should the siphon be? 1/2 5/8 3/4 or 1in. the tank is so small, I don't want to dump water in so fast that it creates a snostorm. Any advice or experience with surge devices on this scale? Is it even doable?

Ohh, the reason for this is to replicate a tidal pool. My hermies love to haul themselves out of the water, and I just think it's neat to watch.
