I know this is probably kinda dumb (i know the whole no dumb question thing, but some might be lol) but, should i leave my lights on all the time? or on at night and off in the day? what do you all reccomend?

What size tank? I have a 5g and I keep it on all the time, it serves as my heater hehe. But i have to turn it off when it gets warm. Also got to watch out for the algae, depends on if you have fish or snails to eat the algae too.

If you are afraid of algae growth getting too excesive (depends on your fish), then I would do 12 hr on/12hr off. There are timers that you can get. When you have them on is up to you. But the main thing is the algae growth.

Yah you might also want to simulate the natural cycle of the fish. Tropical fish are used to 12 hours of light, 12 hours of dark. So by maintaining that cycle you are allowing them resting time. Some types of fish are more comfortable in the dark and even more active if they are nocturnal so its good to provide that cover for them.

Here is the best of both worlds. Turn them on for 12, off for 12 - and when they are off have some moon lights come on. That way it is still dark for the fish to rest, etc., but you can still them with cool moon lights. They have a lot of cool colors in those LED lights. Just a thought.
