I noticed you mentioning a site you referred to as WetCanvas. Is that wetcanvas.com? Anytime I see an art site mentioned I have to check it out, and you mentioned it in such a good way I really wanted to check it out for myself. :) I've been frequenting sites where the standards are either so low it's not worth it to actually register :( , or so high that I'm not quite ready to subject myself, seeing as I'm not a professional - yet :o . I'd really like a site where I could participate as an experienced novice and grow.

Yes, that's the place :)

WetCanvas rocks. Seriously. I started there less than an amateur and was never treated like dirt. Always encouraged and always given constructive criticism.

Just make a mental note to never be offended by criticism. If they don't critique your stuff, you'll never learn and never grow into your full potential.

Wear armour and listen to what they say. Great people!

What media do you use?

They couldn't be worse than my teachers who gave me 'C's all through high school. I've grown past that point :D (I'm in my 30's) and can only grow more from the criticism. I loved art too much to quit. I almost always start in pencil. Prismacolors used to be my fave, but I recently did an acrylic painting(want to do more), and I also like pastels sometimes(street painting - yay!). I work with ink a lot doing blacklines for a comic book(not-for-profit) and my own sketches of mostly landscapes. I'm working on quite a number of projects in Photoshop right now too, some photo-manipulation, some freehand paintings. I'll step it up on the digitals when I can finally get a tablet :o A mouse is sooooo slow! ~breath~ I also do wire jewelry with beads and sometimes embroidery floss.
What's your medium/s? Well, my two year old son who talks very little just told me to "go quick", meaning he thinks I've been on the 'puter too log, LOL. I guess I need to go be a mommy, hehe. :D I look forward to checking out wetcanvas some more.;)

I mostly work in pastels doing commissioned portraiture -- people, animals, stuff like that -- but I also work in colored pencil and acrylic. Some watercolor, but I suck at that :) I like to have more control over my medium.

I also do more "craft" type stuff, like gourd work, but some of those painted/pyrographic gourds I've seeen sell for thousands of dollars. Dunno if I'd call that a craft.

Hope to see you there. I'll be heading in once summer gets here and I get my hubby to move this junk outta my studio/fish room.

I want to build a studio onto the house in a couple of years. Lots of north windows!
