Okay, will clowns or won't clowns eat MTS?

I threw a bunch in my new rainbow tank with the clowns. Romeo got one before it even hit the bottom, but it appeared he could not get the snail out. Dunno though, 'cause I've never seen a loach eat a snail :)

He just dropped it and went back to his zucchini.

So, will the MTS probably survive?

You could always crush them when you find them and they can eat them that way.

But I had posted somewhere I saw mine eat one, it wasn't an MTS I was wrong.

I haven't seen mine eat any I put in the other night but I dug some back up, crushed them and they ate them.

I think MTS have trap doors.

Although I have never seen the snails actually being consumed, I believe that clown loaches are avid snail eaters. I have quite a few Malaysian snails in various tanks, but no snail population has survived the introduction of clown loaches.

Hrm. Well, I only put a few in there to "test the waters" (pardon the pun) -- most of them went into my other tanks -- so if I lose these guys that's not too bad.

Hope some survive, though.

Mine ate the MTS, but it seemed that the MTS were so over populated, that a few manged to survive and breed.

Clowns eat MTS by biting and pulling them out of the shell - there is a reason for those buckteeth. They will heavily control the population but may not wipe them out. The MTS will go nocturnal if they survive.

In my 55 I have 3 clown loaches and 3 kuhli loaches...and quite a few MTS's. got a few ramshorns too...
the MTS's seem to mainly come out after lights out, and substrate is crawling with them. there are just a few ramshorns, mainly big ones. I think there is plenty for the loaches to eat, and they ignore the rest. The MTS' s must be harder to eat and better at hiding becasue there are more of them. I see TONS of mts babies around, but never that many older ones, so I think they are picking off the young..which is fine by me.
For somew reason the pond snails don't do well in this tank..I've dumped in several, but have yet to see an adult. maybe they are the easiest to eat.
If you need more snails...let me know. I have a vertible farm of ramshorns and pond snails in my 10 gallon, and I'm gonna need to thin the herd. May as well do someone some good as opposed to going in the trash. I'm sure I could spare some MTS's too. I just took a couple to work and put in the 5 gallon there. Less than a week and I'm seeing MTS babies already, and no predators there.
