I added sponges to my powerheads to act as a pre-filter, (from a sponge filter) I was wondering if this would cause any problems at all or if it would be okay... thanks in advance

The sponge may become a nitrate factory if you don't change it out at least once of week. OK for the fish, but not good if you have corals.
