I have my heater set at 75 degrees.

My thermometers are telling me that my tank is sitting at 80-82.

Do my lights really cause that much heat in the tank?

The heater isnt stuck on and its the old style ebo jager 150W which are very reliable.

I have 130 W over my 33 Long.

Any advice would be appreciative.

could the number setting on the heater just be off? Maybe it says 75, but its actually 80ish? What kind of lights are they?

I have 2 of the 65W Coralife Compact Fixtures, one on each half of the tank. They both have the mounting legs.

Maybe I have too big of a heater for the tank?

Absolutely NONE of my heaters make the water temperature the same as what the needle on the dial points to. Most are not even close!

Rely only on a dependable thermometer and make very tiny adjustments over time until you get it right.

And everybody said Amen

I had only one - Visitherm - that the dial actually produced the desired temp

If the temp is teh same if you check it just beofe lights on and just after lights out tehn the issue is just calibration and you can just turn down the heater a bit every day until you reach your desired temp

Just a thought, can you calibrate the thermometor? I am setting up a 65 G discus tank right now and I was getting inaccurate read's. I have a 200 watt Jager. It has a calibration button on the top. I did this and voila!! It fixed itself within 4 hour's. Good luck !!
