I'm not really a Mac person but I landed a side gig supporting a handful of Macs. Go figure. :)

Anyway, I got a panic call from the person who hired me and she told me she was prompted to do some kind of software upgrade or update (I have no idea what kind upgrade/update it was) and she chose to delay the upgrade/update until later.

Then her Outlook Express 5 e-mail and address book got nuked. :( She's got only one identity defined (Main Identity) and I can find no traces of any of her old e-mail or address book.

I found some info online about OS 9 upgrades from 9 to 9.2 causing problems for some (loss of e-mail like in this case) and upgrades from 9.2 to X causing problems since Entourage stores e-mail in a different place, etc.

Has there been a recent update to OS 9.2 that might have caused a problem? I'm not sure if she's running 9.2.2 but I think she might.

Thanks in advance!

Peace...

OS 9.2 is pretty much obsolete, and so there would be no new upgrades for it beyond 9.2.2. That said, there should be some information about known problems and how to correct them. OS X has been available for a number of years now, and I don't think that much software even supports OS 9, even when used in Classic mode on a Mac using OS X.

I think the best thing she could do is upgrade to OS X and upgrade software accordingly. But, if, for whatever reason, her computer can't support using OS X, I recommend checking out the Apple (http://www.apple.com/support/macos9/) website for detailed support. As well, there are a number of Mac Support forums out there. Check out http://www.macosx.com/forums/ and http://www.ehmac.ca/ to see if they have any info on OS 9.
