I just recently purchased 3 blue rams and i have two of them in a 55 gallon community and the other, which didnt look as healthy, in a 5 gallon tank as the only inhabitant.....this morning when i turned on the light he about had a panic attack and dove in the substrate, effectivly burrying himself in it....is this something that is normal for these fish? or should i be worried

I had a rock that was positioned so that it would block the light and create a small spot of shade for him to retreat to, but i guess it just wasnt enough so I ended up putting a cup on its side in there for the time being. thanks for the advice.

Try some plants (fake will be O.K., but not best) in the tank, as I noticed my rams really perked up now that they can prowl around in them, as well as the three neon tetra's for dither fish

Im new to all of this; what is the advantage of dither fish? Is it just to make the original fish seem "at home" or "in the wild" in the tank? I guess I'm just not sure what a dither fish is???

probably makes them feel now so alone.

i plan to dither a JD with some blackskirts in a 55 i just hope they get big enuff to not become dinner. the blackskirt i have right now is 3 inches lonf and about 2 tall so i think eating it whole might be an obstical one they are grown

I belive a dither is a smaller fish that makes your other fish feel like king of the tank. At least that is what I always thought.
