Live Plants In Tank

I've been wanting to but live plants in my aquariaum for a long time but not sure what all it intells. I've heard that you have to put some type of dirt mixed in with your gravel. Is this true? If so can i just mix it in with the gavel already in my tank or does it need to be mixed at the time of setup?

Bryant, perhaps you would be better served by reading through the FAQs and threads in the planted subforum and then asking any specific questions that you might have in said forum.

The question of 'how does one keep plants in an aquarium' is akin to 'how does one keep fish in an aquarium'. An answer for either would entail volumes upon volumes of information and still be incomplete.
