Okay I posted a bit early about my "scaredy catfish". Now i have a huge problem.

I realize that the QT tank was a little pointless, but I did treat the larger tank as well. (re: Scaredy Catfish post) Anyway, I noticed last night that ich was presenting on the poor guy, as I mentioned but it's gotten really bad in a really short period of time. To the point where he was 'dancing', 'standing' straight up at the surface and jumping just a bit.

Since I can't treat at full strength with the ich treatment, I read that a salt bath can help the problem. I put him in a bath of about 1 tsp/1 litre of water and he continued to dance but the ich spots shrunk and almost disappeared entirely. When he got back in the water a few enlarged again.

Now he's laying near the bottom of the tank, seemingly exhausted. I don't know if it has anything to do with what he might have, but I noticed the spots are centered around his head and gills. I forgot to mention the one columbian tetra (sometimes called a blue mirror tetra). While he's presenting no ich signs, he's fin clamping something awful.

I'm so worried about my fish. Does anyone have anything I can do right now? I did a water change today, but it only seems to have aggravated the problem. And it's too late to go to the pet store for any treatmen medications...

Please help!!

Treat the entire tank with salt + heat, Jade. It's safer for bottom feeders anyhow. Here's the article:

Just remember that the first place ich will be is in the gills where you can't see it. Sometimes the gills get hit so bad it REALLY screws the fish up. Poor things.

And YES, use table salt. It's fine. It's all good.
