I am having trouble with my snails dying. I have kept gold mystery snails in the tank for some time now and the snails always seem to go a few months quite well then they up and die. Not together. Weeks apart.
There was a large population explosion of snails that came in with weed but they also have diminished to only a few. every time i gravel vac i suck out oodles of small vacant shells that indicate a population that had decimated.
I have even tried some ramshorn snails that i have had breed prolifically when i have had goldfish and one has died after a week. another empty shell. maybe its too warm for them but they seemed to thrive through summer in the goldfish tank that was at 24oC as was the tropical tank through summer.
I have a brown cory catfish, four zebra longfin danios, four white cloud minnows, one rosy barb, three china barbs.
I didnt think any of these were snail killers. the barbs might be nippy sometimes but i havent seen them having a go at the snails.
i had white flat worm in another tank but four swordtails made short work of them. Do they attack snails? just because i can no longer see them doesnt mean they are no longer there.
Any advice please
Dunluce.
