In the past week I've lost four drawfs- a blue, two flames and a rainbow. They all died while I was at the tank, three of them just after feeding. The food I'm using has been in use for four months, and is a mixture of spirulina flakes, new balance staple, and bio blend. They all died the same way- they would be normal then all the sudden they'd start swimming in circles really fast then they wouldn't move anymore. I tried moving the last three to another tank as soon as they started, but they still died. I bought at least one of them from a different lfs. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I still have a flame (1 month old), a blue (1 week), and a rainbow (1 day).

Are your water tests normal?

Yes, everything is normal- and all my other fish are doing fine. Some of my friends that kept drawfs said they couldn't keep theirs alive so they quit getting them. I think they are a beautiful fish, and would like to have a few at all times. Here is a reading of my water- ammonia-0,nitrite-0,hardness-soft,kh-120,ph-7.0. I use flourish excel and co2 injection everyday, and other flourish products as need be. That was so weird for them to die like that while I was there watching.

What about nitrate? What is you co2 and o2 levels? Is it possible they are sufficating?

Question -- do you have any other fish that eat from the surface of the tank? If no, then I suggest you see if you can find out if something is floating there that is poisoning your fish. Oil? Soap? Something toxic you left on your hands and then put them in the water?

Gouramis will breath air from the surface, but this may be something getting into their stomachs and not just through their gills.

i have had dwarfs from day one and find them more hardy than any of the other fish I try to put in like mollies and such.....sounds like a chemical poisoning to me....

Did you recently clean the glass of your tank with anything? Or did someone else living in your house do it thinking they might be helping out? I heard a story similiar to yours, turned out that this persons wife was "cleaning" the tank lids with Formula 409, hence poisoning the surface of the water. All the surface eaters/breathers died shortly after feeding, and the fishkeeping husband was bewildered. Ask your flatmates if they have been doing some spring cleaning. My two cents.

Yah, there was another thread here a couple of months ago -- guy lost his upside down cat. Said he was cleaning the INSIDE of the lid with Windex and some dripped into the tank. He wondered if that would have killed his cat or not
