hi everyone,
i was wondering if anyone knows what this is on my FIRE BELLY NEWTS tail? it looks like a fuzzy mold that is eating up its tail. PLEASE HELP i dont want him to die. i currently have 2 in the tank and noticed that the other newt keeps goin after the other one and the other newt keeps running away. and when she runs he bites the tail.

any ideas what itmight be?
i was thinking that the other newt is irritating it or maybe thats all his fault. BUT again im not a pro at this i maybe its somthing stupid.

oh... i took 2 samples of my TAP and my TANK water to the LPS. He tested them with the test tubes. :he said my TANK water is clean but my tap water has amonia in it.

SORRY THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I ADD A PIC TO THE FORUM AND IT DIDNT WORK. I HOPE THIS WORKS. IF NOT COPY AND PAST THE ADDRESS.

thanx

oh my, well i'll bet that the fungus or bacteria you have on there is a result of being bitten by the other newt- not getting an opportunity to heal- so secondary infection

you should definately separate them if at all possible- divider in tank if you don't have an extra tank around- they're cheap and come in handy often

i've never had newts so wait until some one who has confirms or rejects this idea but- if it were a fish i would turn the water temp up to 82 and add salt to the water.

this maybe a bad idea- i have no idea if newt skin melts upon contact with salt or any other horrible possibility.

good luck! -Kyle

i do have an extra tank but i have goldfish in ther and thers no heater. im afraid he might not like the water in the other tank or it might make it worse. i might get a divider in the for right now then. thanx
