First, should I just put it in the tank or keep it in another tank for a while?

Second, What kind of plant should I get? I want a small one.

Third, I have 3 algae eaters. Would there still be enough algae in there for them if I put a plant in the tank?

I may have more questions later on.

Thankz,
Mariah

In my experience, it's fine to just shove the plant right in. No maintenance or steps nescessary.

How big is your tank and what's your definition of small? What type of light (wattage) do you have? Do you intend to add fertilizers or CO2? Depending on those answers, you might try java fern. Can't go too wrong with java fern.

What type of algae eaters do you have and what type of algae do you have? What type of plant you add, what type of algae eaters you have, and the levels in your tank will really determine what kind of algae will or won't grow.

I may have more questions later on.

Thankz,
Mariah

I have a ten-gallon so I don't even know if that's big enough to put a plant in.

Algae eaters- a panda cory (i plan on getting 1-2 more), otocinclus (also 1-2 more), and a pleco that's only SUPPOSED to get about 5 inches. if he gets bigger i'll take him back or put him in a different tank).

John N., thanks.

Panda cories aren't algae eaters. Oto's are, but do better in schools. I've never had any luck keeping them alive. What kind of pleco do you have?

ok when i posted that i remembered the guy at the pet store saying that Cory was a scavenger. yes i'm probably going to get more otos once i set my 5g back up. Pleco is, I think, a bristlenose plecostomus.

Hello Mariah,
Cories don't eat algae. Catfish are not a method of algae cleaning or tank cleaning. Please check your other post. I'm glad you're here trying to figure out what to do. Right now I would try to keep the fish alive and worry about the plants later.
