After being super dissapointed with my attempt at keeping rams a few months ago (bad stock which died rather quickly) I have decided to try again.
This time, I waited until my LFS got a new batch in, which are imported direct from Germany, and apparently are bred with the odd wild ram thrown in for good measure. He reckons they are as close as you'll get to a wild ram.
Anyway, I bought 8 altogether, originally 5 females and a male on saturday, but got another 2 males yesterday, with the intention of taking back 6 or 4 after a pair or two forms.
Well, I got back from work today and one end of the tank has 6 rams, and the other definately belongs to a pair. The original male and one of the females seem to be cleaning the gravel, and the female keeps quivering her belly on the gravel, which I think is spawning behaviour? I saw one at it in the shop too.
So I'm dead chuffed. I think I'll wait to see if another pair forms before I take the singles back, as I really want to try breeding these beautiful fish, as good, healthy stock seems to be very hard to come by in this country.
