Microswords..
They say they are a high light plant so I'm not expecting them to do well ( I have 1.75 wpg medium low), but thought it can't hurt to try.

That is one of my biggest pet peeves at fish stores, espically when they mix fish together and say assorted tetra's, cichlids, or what ever else.

I don't know the species offhand, Ice but the leaves on the big swords show they were grown emersed, like bog plants. When the new leaves come in the oval ones will die back. They can get gimongus, too.

Looks really, really good btw!!!!
1.75 wpg compact flourescents
No CO2- Just 10 ml of Excel daily
Dry ferts from Greg Watson ( if you want I'll add the amounts )
Flourish 3 times a week ( 5 ml each time )
phosphates ( fleet ) 2 times a week ( 1 ml each time )
And thanks everyone..I'm almost afraid to inject CO2 I'd be trimming daily!
I did just order CaSO4 to replace the CaCL2, should come this week.

I think I'm going to pull the microsword. Its holding its own but not really growing, not enough light.I'll let the dwarf sag take the entire front of the tank.
I pulled my ludwiga, need to make room for some new plants.

I'll also be moving my mattogrosse to the right side of the tank. I'll do more pics when I get the plants in and they take root.

That's looking really awesome now with the plants going off. I was a bit iffy from the very first pics of this tank but now it is looking nice. Do you have any Rainbowfish in there? If not then u should definately put some in, I believe they would look awesome in there. Brilliant job. As soon as I get a digital camera I will take shots of my tank for you guys to see. Yes I know Im living in the past, who doesnt have a digital camera. Just me. Soon though. Its on my list.

LOL Yeah I was pretty clueless.. I had enough light but wasn't dosing ferts.
It helped being able to read these forums ask questions and research.
These are the fish in the tank.
2 Senegal Birchirs both 6-7 inches..they won't let me measure them.
2 Clown Loaches one is about 5 inches the other about 4 inches
2 Climbing Spotted Perch one is 4 inches the other 3 inches
6 Australian Rainbows. They were labled Western but I believe they are Eastern from looking at pics.
A number of ram, pond and MTS.

Here is a website of an Austrlian rainbow breeder:
http://ausyfish.com/rainbows%20main%20page.htm
Pretty crap website but shows some diff aus rainbows. There are also some links on there Im pretty sure for the angfa site which has some mad photos of some aus fish.
I didn't think aus rainbows were that nice until my dad said he breeds them in queensland and sent me to these sites. There would be some much better sites Im sure though with much nicer fish even.

They were chasing one another so it was hard to get good shots. I'm hoping I got a couple of different fish and not the same ones. But as you can see one has more red in the tail and the other more yellow.

They're gorgeous fish Ice. They do look a little like crosses. In Australia it is very frowned apon to cross Rainbowfish. They try and conserve them and keep the right fishes in the right areas. So if you want to stock your dam with them you have to get the closest local wild fish. Your fish look sweet as though. Did you see the new strain on that site they are breeding now. The colours are just rediculous. I think they compete with any tropical fish. I just wish I had another tank I could dedicate to them but I have already dedicated my space to Amazons. Did I mention your tank looks sweet Ice? I'm sure I did. Do you breed any fish or have any other tanks?

Oh nice! Man that goldfish is pretty big. The new scape looks really good. How have you planted and grown that ferny plant so well? I can't remember the name of it, the dark green plant near the middle rightish. I have one of those attached to a rock but it doesn't seem to be doing as well as I would like. What is your PH and hardness just out of curiosity? Maybe it's the light you have. What sort of light is it and how much wattage all up? The red plants look really cool. But they all do actually. I noticed though that you have a little bit of algae. If this happens I find that increasing the co2 should get rid of it. Also reducing the amount of plant ferts at the same time will help reverse the problem.
IceH2O
11-15-2006, 6:10 PM
The ferny plant is African fern aka Bolbitis heudelotti.
I have it in both tanks. The one in the 75 gallon is attached to driftwood, the one in the 55 is in a pot covered with some gravel, just enough to hold it down not buried.
The 75 gallon has 130 watts od CF lighting, the 55 has 96 watts of CF.
My pH sits under 6 in the 75 and around 6.8 in the 55. The water in both tanks is soft.
I don't inject CO2 so I can't increase it.
I just started doubling my PO4 to see if that helps. I may double my Excel dosage also.

Looking today during my PWC I seen another bloom on another anabuis.
Keep close because I'm going to change my scape some. The African Ferns and Anabuis do so well in the 55 I'm moving the ones in my 75 to the 55 and moving some crypts from the 55 to the 75.

Ok here is the 75 with the wood in it. The Mopani wasn't as big as i thought it would be but has a nice cave/hollow area in the middle and sits on the right hand side of the tank, just left of the Red Temple. The Rainbows are conveniently blocking it. The big piece on the left is Malaysian.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y51/IceH2Oinmyveins/IM001417-crop.jpg
What can I do IYO to sweeten the deal. I was thinking maybe a moss lawn on top of the driftwood. There are crypts all around the big piece and under it as it sits about 4 inches off the substrate. Should I just let the crypts overgrow it instead?

I really need to update the 75 gallons pic. I added flame moss to the driftwood on the left side and the Red Temple on the right has been trimmed and replanted so its much thicker looking over there. I'm not excatly happy with behind the big piece of wood, have some crypts back there but I don't think they will grow high enough to really show.
Maybe I'll get some pics tonight when the room darkens.
