Checking for compatibility with tetras

Well, I gave up the 15 gallon I had (still listed in my sig) because my grandmother donated her 29 gallon tall to me.

I currently have Neon Tetras in there, and I also picked up some black skirt tetras.

My fiancee would like to have a male betta in there. I think I remember hearing that one in a community tank would be alright. Anyone have any experience with this?

I also was curious to know if anyone has any other interesting, hardy, smaller fish they could recommend. I'm trying to find a couple of miscellaneous fish that I can put in there for my fiancee, since she's not really into the fish tank much. I think including some things for her would peak her interest a little.

Take her to the store and see what she likes. Then do some research on what she really liked. I'm doing the same thing for my fiance. He really really wants snails so I've been researching interesting and safe snails to have. I think he will enjoy that.

I know that I really like guppies because they are always having babies. The babies don't last as the other fish will eat them but it still can be fun to watch as you usually have some fry in the tank.

A male beta cold work if you don't have really colorful-finned fish. They usually won't get along with guppies and anything larger with nice fins. Adding a beta might significantly reduce your choices for the tank in the future. But its personal choice. If you really like betas then its worth it.
