This started about five days ago...I have 11 redtail sharks in a 55 gallon tank and they are not killing each other..They hang out together at night and stay at the same spot in the corner together..They sometimes quarrel but not to the point of stress...I have read in the internet, that a person should have only one redtail shark to a tank or more than six redtail sharks in a tank to calm the aggression..So far, day 5, things are looking okay where I dont have to take any of my redtails back to the LFS..

Red Tail Shark's are calm as juveniles. If you just got them from the store, they are likely very small.

They will grow to about 5" in less than a year (in good conditions). As they grow they get continually more and more aggressive.

I have also read that keeping several together will calm the aggression, but I've never had the experience to tell whether that is true or not.

I hope that your sharks will continue to get along together. I think they are awesome fish.

One thing that I would not do is put any type of other fish in that tank! They will DESTROY IT!

I don't think any other fish will fit in there anyways, as it sounds pretty cramped in there or will be once the fish grow.

ive found that redtails and albinos get a little territorial as they age. in my tank, the red tail has a log that he chases everyone away from.

it could work though, i have a few in one tank that work. good luck.

Red tail sharks are in my top 5 favorite fishes. :) Get some pics if you can. I've always wondered what a school of red tails would look like. It will be interesting to see how they do when they mature. Their aggression, however, is all too often exaggerated a bit. It most certainly is possible to keep other fish with them...you just need to be careful which fish you choose. They normally don't bother fish that are equal to or larger than themselves. Most cichlids could easily handle a redtail's aggression. Eleven territorial sharks could get interesting, though. ;)

on this red tailed shark subject, I have a question...

What do you guys feed your red tail???

Mine doesnt seem to eat the pleco chips or the flake food. He just seems to swim around my tank picking at some of my bacopa plants and ornaments.

They dont bother my other fishes cause they are a lot bigger..A peson from a messege board claimed to have 58 redtail sharks in a tank and bred babies..
