ahemm, where to start, well first this a question off many others, i have 3 electric yellow labs, and are now 1 year old, at what point will be considered an adult, and perhaps try to spawn, they seem to do the chaseing thing in circles for a lengthy amount of time but nothing happens. I also have a pair of daffodils that paired up from the beginng and i think im on the 10th batch of fry by now, horny little devils., I also had a mom with eggs in her mouth, not sure the name of the fish yet, but she held for the longest time, now there not held, have no idea who the dad is, as they were never together, but the question is, is it possible she released her fry, and they are being taken care of by the daffodils, cause i thought it seemed too soon for me to see another batch. I bought a second jewel hoping to pair them up, they are getting along fine, when first introduced in the tank they swam in circles, then seperated for about 2 weeks, now there hanging more closely together, the one jewel i assume is a male, is really red and vibrant, the other i assumed is female, cause she is hardly red at all, but you can see a light tint of the red, when i got this fish i didnt notice right away till it was up against the other one my tank buy her stomach is way more plump, is this a sign she may be pregnant, or just fat, the spot on rear dorsal fin is much more faded then the one i assume is a male, and lets say, they are male and femal, both are 1 year old, at what age could it be possible they spawn.

Thxs not new, but question i cant get resources on.

Lykos-will post pics once i figure it out

What size is your tank? You have a real mix of fish there! African riverine, lake tang, and lake malawi!

Your fish will breed when ready.... I've had them breed super early... as early as six months (granted the ladies never held to term), and sometimes they breed when they are much older. Its critical to have proper sex ratios and males and females of the same species. The fry that were released from the female may have been eaten up by the other fish, or could possibly be being taken care of by the daffodils, I have heard of it happening before, but usually with other Tangs.
